Hospital's Parking Structure Clears Hurdle
22.05.12
Mount Kisco’s planning board approved the core specifics Tuesday of a two-story parking garage for Northern Westchester Hospital .
The open-air parking structure, scaled back from an enclosed but pricier $14 million proposal, is expected to rise on the site of a former parking lot immediately south of the hospital, off St. Marks Place. The first facility of its kind in the village, it would provide 462 parking spaces, including a number it would share with neighboring businesses.
While the short-handed planning board unanimously approved the hospital’s amended site plan, members must still address key questions of how to light the structure and divvy up its parking stalls before the project can get a full green light. Both issues are scheduled for consideration late next month, including a public hearing on proposed LED lighting.
The board’s vice chairman, Anthony Sturniolo, presided Tuesday in the absence of Chairman Joseph Cosentino. Sturniolo presented the results of an inquiry he and fellow member Douglas Hertz carried out after architects presented dueling scenarios on the lighting issue in October .
